Christmas Tour The Historic Anderson Mansion will be a featured destination on this year's Marietta Pilgrimmage Christmas Home Tour and will be the site of this year’s Marietta Olde Marietta Tearoom. Visit us Saturday, December 6th and Sunday, December 7th from 10 am to 4 pm.

About the Author:
This research report on Opportunities in the ADR Field in Georgia was compiled by Jennifer Matte. Ms. Matte is Vermont Law School graduate. During law school, she completed an externship with the Consortium for Negotiation and Conflict Resolution. Her work with The Center for Legal Solutions, Inc. has primarily focused on the emergence of specializations within the ADR community.

The program is focused on employee-employer relations

It provides a system for employees to solve work related disputes and to voice their work related complaints

All employees are granted the opportunity to present work-related complaints in a forum in which the GMS and the employee act in good faith to resolve the matter with open discussion

GMS offers a specific mediation procedure, and references the Rules of the State Personnel Board (478-1-.29


Who administers the program? Who is the director and what is their title?

The Office of Human Resource Management and Development Employee Relations Sector (OHRMD) reviews mediation requests and schedules mediation sessions. This office also assigns mediators and designates the time and location for the mediation

Who performs the mediation? How is this determined?

The OHRMD coordinates the assignment of a certified mediator

Mediators are chosen in regards to:
  • The specific needs of the organization
  • Location
  • Nature of the conflict
  • Demographics of the parties involved

What are the requirements for training in order to mediate these disputes? How much experience is suggested or required?

Mediators undergo general mediation training (conflict skills, negotiation skills, and problem solving techniques)

There are further requirements designed in a practicum by GMS that must be completed for certification GMS conducts these trainings (Employee Management Relations: General/Civil Mediation Training)


What is the pay rate for a mediator of this type? How is payment structured?

Mediators for this program volunteer their services through the State Dispute Resolution Service

The only cost to the agency is in the form of reimbursement


Where is this type of mediation performed?

OHRMD coordinates the assignment of a time and location for all mediation sessions
