About the Author:
This research report on Opportunities in the ADR Field in Georgia was compiled by Jennifer Matte. Ms. Matte is Vermont Law School graduate. During law school, she completed an externship with the Consortium for Negotiation and Conflict Resolution. Her work with The Center for Legal Solutions, Inc. has primarily focused on the emergence of specializations within the ADR community.

Opportunities with the Atlanta Bar Association, ADR Lawyers Section Pro Bono Mediation Program
Program developed by the Atlanta Legal Aid Society and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Lawyers Section of the Atlanta Bar Association
Goals is to help move civil cases appropriate to mediation to a successful conclusion and reduce costs
In 2006, the ADRL and Atlanta Legal Aid partnered to provide pro bono mediation services in legal aid cases
Volunteer mediators will not be called on to serve more frequently than twice a year

ADRL section board members administer the program. They identify the appropriate ADRL members to meditate, assist in drafting the agreement with the parties, and find convenient locations for the mediation

20 registered mediators have been recruited for the program
(current recruitment efforts are in place as well)
What are the requirements for training in order to mediate these disputes?
How much experience is suggested or required?
All mediators involved have at least 3 years of active mediation experience as well as a wide range of legal experience
Volunteers are asked to fill out a form similar to the form required to certify as a mediator by the GODR
Volunteers will be asked to attend a short training session, specifically related to the program itself
(this training will not cover general mediation techniques)
What is the pay rate for a mediator of this type? How is payment structured?
The program is based on the work of volunteers and mediation services are provided pro bono
