State and Local Requirements: Continuing Requirements

This page is intended to detail the continuing requirements for neutrals to maintain their registration with the Georgia Commission on Dispute Resolution (GCDR) and certifications with local court-annexed ADR programs in North Metro Atlanta. All neutrals working in court-annexed programs must be registered with the GCDR. Though some local court-connected ADR programs adopt GCDR standards, others impose additional requirements so completing GCDR-approved training does not necessarily qualify a neutral to participate in a local court-connected program.

There is no mandatory registration requirement for neutrals who practice dispute resolution in a private setting like The Center for Legal Solutions. Many mediators who practice in a private setting, however, do satisfy state and local requirements for registration / certification and may participate in court-annexed programs in addition to their private practice.

Continuing Requirements: After initial state registration and/or certification with local court-annexed programs, neutrals must continue their training and education to maintain their registration and/or certifications.
State Requirements:
  • Complete 3 hours of continuing eduation related to skill, knowledge and/or professionalism of neutrals in the first two-year renewal cycle after initial registration
  • Complete 6 hours of continuing eduation related to skill, knowledge and/or professionalism of neutrals in each subsequent two-year registration renewal cycle
  • Maintain Good moral character
  • File timely renewal applications with the GCDR
  • Additional Cobb Requirements:
  • Complete approved 3 hour continuing education course every year

    Clayton Judicial Circuit ADR:
  • No Additional Requirements

Fulton County State and Superior Courts:
  • No Additional Requirements

    Additional Gwinnett County Requirements:
  • Four hours continuing education required for neutrals
  • 6th Judicial District:
  • No Additional Requirements

    Additional 9th JAD Requirements:
