General Mediation Training Practicum at The Center for Legal Solutions
Learn to resolve conflict through mediation from the most qualified trainers in Georgia. We offer core courses as well training on specialized topics and advanced skills.
Our General Civil Mediation Training Practicum is a 12 hour course designed for individuals who want to mediate, as well as for those who want to better represent clients in mediation. Participants will learn how to mediate a variety of disputes. This class is designed to meet the basic training requirement for those who want to be registered as a civil mediator in Georgia. Our General Civil Mediation Practicum is designed to satisfy Georgia's requirement that those who want to register as a general civil mediator must observe 5 mediations conducted by experienced mediators after completing general civil mediation training. Through the use of videotaped mediations, participants will observe experienced mediators resolve a variety of disputes. The mediators demonstrate techniques for dealing with difficult parties and overcoming impasse. An experienced mediator will be present to lead group discussion of mediations and answer questions.

The Practicum is lead by Dr. Susan Raines. In addition to her teaching and research, Dr. Raines has mediated more than 10,000 civil and domestic disputes; is a civil and domestic mediation trainer; has designed and evaluated Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) programs for state and federal agencies; regularly facilitates public meetings; leads negotiated rulemaking processes; and is an ACR Advanced Practitioner. She was the 2006 President of the Georgia chapter of the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) and is the Editor-in-Chief of Conflict Resolution Quarterly. Dr. Raines offers mediation, facilitation, training, program design and evaluation services. Dr. Raines can be contacted at sraines@kennesaw.edu
